About Meg Fatharly
Artist, illustrator and maker based in Cornwall
I’m Meg Fatharly, a Cornwall-based artist creating intricate paper collages, embossed metal artworks and illustrated objects designed to be noticed, held onto and lived with.
My work often begins with an ordinary detail: a flower leaning towards the light, a familiar object on a shelf, a fragment of handwriting or a feeling that is difficult to explain. Through cutting, drawing, printing and embossing, I turn those details into tactile pieces of art that celebrate curiosity, imperfection and thinking differently.
From my studio in Cornwall, I create original artwork, art prints, keepsake cards, decorations and commissioned pieces for individuals, independent shops, galleries and brands.
Art made slowly, through pressure and play
My practice moves between collage, drawing, monotype and metal embossing.
I work primarily with sheets of tin, brass and copper, pressing into the surface by hand to build texture, pattern and relief. The metal remembers every mark. A line cannot simply be rubbed away, so the process asks me to work with uncertainty rather than trying to control it.
That physical pressure has become part of the meaning of the work. Materials are stretched, marked and transformed, but they are not destroyed. They become something with depth.
Alongside metalwork, I use hand-cut collage and printmaking to construct plants, interiors and small visual worlds. My work sits somewhere between illustration and object, often hovering in what I think of as two and a half dimensions.
Why I make
I make art because images can sometimes hold what words cannot.
As an artist with ADHD, I am interested in attention, repetition, sensitivity and the unexpected ways our minds collect information. My work does not try to disguise difference or squeeze it into something tidier. Instead, it celebrates the strange connections, small observations and intense feelings that can easily be overlooked.
Many of my pieces begin as reminders to myself: to pause, take up space, trust my instincts or stop measuring my worth through productivity.
They may be small, but they are not insignificant.
From original artwork to keepsakes
My collections include original embossed artworks, limited-edition prints, illustrated greeting cards and handmade Christmas ornaments.
Although some pieces begin in the shape of a card or decoration, I think of them as keepsakes. They are designed to remain on a mantelpiece, be tucked into a book, hung up year after year or passed from one person to another.
My work is available through my online shop and a growing family of independent stockists across the UK.
I also work with galleries, retailers and creative brands on bespoke artwork, illustration, product design and collaborative collections. Previous clients and collaborators include the V&A, Fortnum & Mason, the Natural History Museum, The Body Shop, Net-a-Porter and Toast.
Workshops, commissions and collaborations
Alongside my studio practice, I lead creative workshops exploring collage, printmaking and metal embossing.
My workshops are designed to feel welcoming rather than intimidating. Participants are encouraged to experiment, follow their curiosity and make something individual, without needing to arrive with a perfectly polished idea.
I am also available for selected commissions, licensing projects, talks, exhibitions and brand collaborations.
Where I work
I live and work in Cornwall, where the landscape, independent creative community and slower rhythms continually find their way into my practice.
My work is made by hand in small quantities, with close attention to material, texture and finish. This means every embossed mark, cut edge and printed surface carries a little evidence of its making.
That evidence matters to me. It is part of what makes an artwork feel alive.
